Matthew Warnken to attend COP26- media release 28 October 2021
Founder and Chair of pioneering carbon project developer, Corporate Carbon, to showcase climate solutions at COP26 in Glasgow
Leading carbon project developer, Corporate Carbon, today announced that founder and Chair, Matthew Warnken, will be attending COP26 in Glasgow at the invitation of the Australian Government.
Warnken’s key focus at the conference will be to showcase the climate solutions that the company has initiated, discuss with global business leaders the pathways to a safe climate, and liaise with investors around funding models to create the momentum for carbon abatement at the required scale.
“The solutions we’ll be displaying include soil carbon through AgriProve, a special purpose vehicle spun out from Corporate Carbon three years ago; Maki, a new initiative established by Corporate Carbon to export Australia's success with savanna fire management to reduce GHG emissions; and DAC, developing the world’s first solar-powered Direct Air Capture project coupled to geological sequestration, in central Australia,” said Warnken.
Australia is a leader in many climate technologies, especially in nature-based solutions. The Emissions Reduction Fund (ERF) is the Australian Government's mechanism for incentivising carbon abatement in the form of Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs). The ERF reached major milestones of 1000 projects in August and the 100 millionth ACCU issued in September 2021.
“Australia’s current funding model trajectory, focus on climate technologies and co-design (government and industry) approach to methodology development can deliver one billion ACCUs by the end of the decade,” said Warnken.
Founded by Warnken in 2010, Corporate Carbon delivers climate abatement from project development through to sale of credits, ensuring emissions reductions, carbon sequestration and co-benefits for the environment, individuals and businesses. Ever since its establishment, Corporate Carbon has been at the forefront of climate innovation in the Australian carbon market.
Corporate Carbon has been instrumental in demonstrating the commercial viability of new and evolving methodologies, most recently carbon capture and storage, savanna fire management and environmental plantings, with a track record in developing novel processes and supporting technology to assist in their activities.
“Corporate Carbon is well aligned with the Australian Government’s Net Zero 2050 Plan and intends to continue its leadership and innovation across the climate sector in support of NZE50,” said Managing Director Gary Wyatt.
Warnken has also been selected as head of delegation for the Business Council for Sustainable Development Australia at Glasgow COP26. He will be sharing his observations from Glasgow throughout the COP as part of G’day Glasgow: The BCSD Australia COP26 Daily News Program.
Warnken, who is also Managing Director of AgriProve, Australia’s leading soil carbon project developer, said "This BCSD Australia initiative really helps business understand the significance of these UN-led negotiations - which are not just climate talks but include the trade and finance implications, gender and youth issues, and carbon technical and legal aspects, just to name a few."
Registration for G’day Glasgow is free to anyone to view and can be made via this link.
